Supergirl season 3 episode 6 live stream: Watch online
By Amy Woolsey
This week, Supergirl whisks the Danvers sisters away from National City – but not from their problems. Here’s how you can watch “Midvale”.
It was only a matter of time. Supergirl had been preparing for the inevitable dissolution of Alex and Maggie’s relationship since the season premiere. Hints of their incompatible visions for the future, particularly where children are concerned, peppered almost every conversation. Frankly, even last season, it was hard to imagine things working out for them in the long term.
Even so, the end was heartbreaking. Actors Chyler Leigh and Floriana Lima deftly conveyed the feeling of gratitude mixed with sadness that hung over Maggie’s departure.
So, what’s next? “Damage” concluded with Kara insisting that her sister take time off work and return to their childhood home. Below, you can read the synopsis for this week’s episode, titled “Midvale”:
"ESCAPE DOWN MEMORY LANE — Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) head home to Midvale for a little R&R. While there, Kara recalls a painful memory of a childhood friend’s death and how that traumatic experience brought the Danver sisters closer together. Izabela Vidovic plays Young Kara and Olivia Nikkanen plays Young Alex in flashbacks."
As “The Faithful” demonstrated, Supergirl frequently excels when it deviates from its central narrative. Such detours give it license to explore emotional and thematic territory that the action-oriented superhero genre tends to neglect, to its detriment. After Morgan Edge’s shenanigans last week, this one should provide a welcome breather for viewers as well as the characters.
Plus, Kara and Alex’s relationship has always been the show’s most reliable strength. It seems impossible that an episode focused solely on them (presumably, with no supervillains in sight) wouldn’t be amazing.
