Outlander season 3 episode 9 live stream: Watch The Doldrums online

Claire and Jamie set sail to find Young Ian and come across disease, superstition, and redcoats along the way in this week’s Outlander.

Maybe all Claire and Jamie needed was a second honeymoon.

Judging from the promo for “The Doldrums,” this week’s installment of Outlander, the pair’s woes look like they’ve been put on the back burner. To be fair, if my nephew was kidnapped by pirates while in my care, I’d probably let my marital spat go, too.

The couple might be enjoying some sea and sun while they’re aboard the Voyager — I’m assuming that’s the name of the ship, but I haven’t read Diana Gabaldon’s novels so I don’t know for sure — but things are still far from idyllic. I mean, the episode is called “The Doldrums.”

Illness runs rampant amongst the ship’s crew and, as TV Guide suggests, the sailors see Claire as both savior and scapegoat:

"Claire and Jamie leave Scotland, sailing to the West Indies on an urgent quest. But when the superstitious crew looks for someone to blame after a string of bad luck, rescue comes from an unlikely source."

I predict that the “unlikely source” in question will be Archie and/or Margaret Campbell, the brother-sister charlatans Claire met in “Creme De Menthe.” Archie mentioned he and Margaret were about to head out for the West Indies and even made an offhand remark about how superstitious sailors can be. It’s probable that, yet again, Claire’s penchant for treating people’s medical ailments will pay off and save her hide.
