To catch you up on This Is Us, here’s what you need to know: Kate is secretly pregnant. Randall and Beth are having trouble with their new foster daughter. Rebecca’s mom is even worse than we first thought. Below is a brief recap of last week’s episode, as well as links to access tonight’s episode live.
Episode 4, “Still There,” was all about motherhood. Rebecca’s mother stays with the Pearsons during a terrible snow storm. The triplets and Jack get Chickenpox. Randall overhears Rebecca call her mother a racist, so Jack and Rebecca sit down with Randall and try to explain to him how different kinds of racism exist.
Beth has a heart to heart with her new foster daughter, Deja. Deja continues to have trouble adjusting to her new life, particularly when it comes to personal hygiene. She shares some of her history with Beth, and asks her not to tell anyone about their conversation. Deja later feels betrayed, when Randall tries talking with her, and seems to know more about her personal life than she’s ever shared with him.
But, the biggest shocker? Kate is six weeks pregnant! And, she’s told no one! Kate spends the episode sneaking out, working out, and avoiding trying on her goal dress. Toby thinks she’s obsessed with losing weight, but during the last scene of the episode, we learn the obsession is really with staying healthy for her growing baby.
