Patty Jenkins opens up on James Cameron, her salary and more
We love Patty Jenkins and we owe a lot to her. And now she’s opening up about the negotiations for her Wonder Woman 2 salary and James Cameron.
Look, we all now love Patty Jenkins. Her work on Wonder Woman helped change the world and pave the way for future female filmmakers. So really, we’re ready to listen to everything and anything she has to say.
Recently, Patty spoke to Variety about the sexism in Hollywood (which is certainly topical now with everything going on with Harvey Weinstein). And it is honestly surprising how much she had to fight to get paid more for Wonder Woman 2.
Not only was Wonder Woman the biggest hit of this summer, but it broke box office records. So the idea that Patty had to then fight to make more money is baffling. Because without Patty Jenkins, who knows what would have happened to the DC Extended Universe.
"Women who have not been in a system that allows them to build up the same level of pay as men are not able to be paid the same as men forever if that’s the way it continues. You have to ask for it to happen, and you have to ask when you’re the appropriate person."
Patty does make a good point though. Without her having the position to ask for it, women might run the risk of never having the opportunities. You have to fight for what you want in this day and age and that includes equal pay for, arguably, better work.
James Cameron’s obsession with Wonder Woman
For those who have forgotten, there have been two instances where James Cameron seems to think it is fine for him to bash Wonder Woman. None of us really care and apparently, neither did Patty Jenkins. But she felt like she had to comment because of the social media attention his words were getting.
"I actually was not upset at all. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. But if you’re going to debate something in a public way, I have to reply that I think it’s incorrect."
She went on to say that Cameron also never apologized to her for the things he said. But really, did anyone expect him to?
