Empire returns tonight, with Lucious continuing to seek out his memories on his own terms and Anika fighting for her family and her life to be normal again.

According to a press release from Fox, this week’s episode of Empire will deal with Lucious continuing to try to remember his life.

Cookie also continues to run Empire, but her status as an ex-convict begins to get in the way. Fox’s synopsis notes:

"When Cookie is denied a line of credit, she flashes back to her years in prison and compares her past struggles to her life now. Lucious continues to struggle with demons of his own and begs his family to tell him about the ways he’s wronged them, but they are reluctant to tell him the truth. Meanwhile, the NYPD is still on Andre’s case about the events that transpired in Vegas and one officer in particular catches his eye in the all-new “Evil Manners” episode of EMPIRE airing Wednesday, Oct. 11 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (EMP-403) (TV-14 D, L, V)"

A preview clip shows Cookie attempting to keep her sons from telling Lucious how he wronged them. Hakeem, being the great listener that he is, launches into the story about the time Lucious punched him in the face anyway.

Lucious also asks Cookie why she was gone for 17 years and if it was because of him. Honestly, I’m looking forward to this scene. Save for a few moments throughout the show, Cookie has never really delved into how she felt being in prison for Lucious for nearly two decades. This has the potential to be a really honest and emotional moment for Cookie and I hope it delivers.

The previews also show Cookie cozying up to Diana DuBois. Setting aside the fact that this is obviously going to come back to bite her, I wonder if Cookie going to the DuBois family has anything to do with her not being able to get credit.  It would have to be a pretty big deal for Cookie to slink back to them with her tail between her legs.

Lucious also breaks into Empire headquarters with Jamal and Thirsty (whose real name is apparently Thurston, don’t know how I missed that). The clip doesn’t show why they’re doing this, but I think Jamal is looking for his father’s stamp of approval on his new music.

Finally, The episode also picks up where “Full Circle” left off, with Anika wanting to take Baby Bella home after she is released from jail. But Hakeem has other plans and says Bella will be staying with him. Awwww! Look at Li’l Keem tying to be a daddy. How cute! In all seriousness, as I said in my previous review, I’m excited to see how Anika reacts to being the outcast of her own family like Cookie was after her stint in prison.

You can tune in tonight to watch Empire on FOX.

I love that we’re starting to see more of Lucious’ ways of speaking and physical mannerisms show up as he begins to get more comfortable with his family and his surroundings. In the comments section of one of the preview videos, someone suggested that Lucious might be faking his injury. I initially thought that at  the end of season 3 and it’s still extremely possible. But I think we’ll need to see a bit more of Lucious to make that call.
