How to Get Away with Murder returns tonight with “I’m Going Away,” the season 4 premiere, and things look like they’ll get messy.

How to Get Away with Murder has its fourth season premiere in store tonight after Grey’s Anatomy‘s two-hour extravaganza, and it’s time to break down what the show will bring for “I’m Going Away.”

First up, the photos released by ABC pretty clearly indicate who will speak the line to name the episode — Annalise. Why? There are photos of her together with her mother, played by Cicely Tyson, buried a few layers down, but there are also images of her at a restaurant with Bonnie, Laurel, Michaela, Asher, and a newly-short-haired Connor.

Besides that, though, the actual synopsis basically confirms what the photos show:

"In the wake of Wes’ tragic death, Annalise returns to her family home to pick up the pieces of her shattered life, and realizes that, in order to rebuild, she must make a tough and shocking decision. Meanwhile, “the Keating 4” all face an uncertain future while Laurel becomes obsessed with finding out what actually happened to Wes the night he died. In a flash-forward, a terrifying crime is committed and everyone is a suspect."

Laurel looks to start playing a major role in season 4, something we’ve picked up on since the season 3 finale. It’s good that the show will start laying that groundwork now at the start of the season instead of bringing it out of nowhere.

What exactly is Annalise’s “tough and shocking decision”? Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Pete Nowalk seemed to hint that there’s a possibility that she won’t be teaching anymore. He did confirm, however, that when it comes to the murder of Wes, “she’s legally off the hook,” so that shouldn’t play too much of a role anymore … at least not in her storylines, at least not to the degree they did last season.

Nowalk did point out that the season actually won’t start immediately after season 3 ended. It’s “a month or two later” instead. That explains the haircut for Connor (and the slight change in Bonnie’s hairstyle, too). Hopefully there will be some explanation as to why Connor cut those wavy locks off. We miss them already.

Curiously missing from the photos, though, is Oliver. Nowalk briefly talks about him in the EW interview, but otherwise, there’s no sight of him. That’s something to put a pin in for this premiere.

Additionally, the point Nowalk’s been emphasizing for a while now is that this season will see a change in how things exactly play out. Hopefully it’ll become apparent from the start of this premiere.
