Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders episode 1 live stream
With a new lease on life, Law & Order is going to have a second series airing new episodes alongside SVU. Here’s what you need to know about True Crime.
Presumably, the new Law & Order series, True Crime: The Menendez Murders, won’t have the iconic sound effect to denote changes of scenery. But even if it does, we’re still excited for this new take on a classic franchise. Not that we don’t love SVU, but it’s time to give it a shot, right?
And what better way than to be even more obvious about the fact that Law & Order has always looked at what’s happening in the world and the headlines than by straight out putting it in the title? Here’s Rolling Stone‘s breakdown of the case in question.
Meanwhile, NBC has put out a lengthy synopsis of the first episode, which we’ve reprinted here:
"After Jose and Kitty Menendez are found murdered in their upscale Beverly Hills home, their eldest son, Lyle, maintains a stoic appearance while his younger brother, Erik, struggles to deal with overwhelming grief. As detectives Les Zoeller and Tom Linehan search for the killers, evidence begins to suggest that Lyle and Erik may be the prime suspects. Meanwhile, a tenacious and energetic defense attorney, Leslie Abramson’s takes an interest in the case."
That’s really a lot to fit in the first episode, especially when it doesn’t even mention Edie Falco’s character (who has been all over the adverts for the show) right away. Then again, the second episode’s synopsis is also up and reveals that even by episode 2, we won’t necessarily see Falco’s Leslie Abramson meet with the brothers and want to work for them as their lawyer.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Law & Order actually applies itself to a serialized drama like this, when the cases are usually wrapped up in one episode. That’s what makes this particular premiere worth watching if you’ve spent a lot of time watching any of the Law & Order series, from the original to SVU to Criminal Intent and maybe even Trial by Jury (that takes some dedication).

And besides, true crime is kind of in right now. It’s hard to resist a broadcast network’s attempt to tap in to that.
