American Horror Story: Cult is cashing in on our fear, and it’s just getting started. Here’s how to watch episode 2.
After last week’s intense and deliciously screwed up season 7 premiere, it’s clear that American Horror Story is not clowning around this year. The inclusion of current events, the blatant reflection of the national crisis of fear, and that ever-so-overt Ryan Murphy “symbolism” blended together to produce an inaugural episode that was memorable, terrifying, and truly disturbing.
And unlike the feeling many of us right after the events of Cult’s source material, election night, with episode 2 on the horizon, it feels like there’s nowhere to go but up. Or at least, there’s nowhere to go but to a place that’ll be pretty interesting to watch.
We last saw our (kinda broken and possibly insane) heroine, Ally (Sarah Paulson), and her partner Ivy (Alison Pill) trying to work out the details of a grisly murder that 1) took place across the street while their child had been left with a nanny and, 2) had possibly been a witness to. Kai (Evan Peters), our villain, is inciting chaos on large and small scales, and is really enjoying doing it. And Winter (Billie Lourd) seems to be somewhere in between.
So this week, we dive back into the post-election terrorscape we’ve previously been watching television to avoid but now will watch television to analyze. Here’s hoping episode 2, which according to FX’s schedule is named “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” is just as, well, dark, nightmare-inducing, and Paulson-heavy as the premiere.
