Outlander season 3, episode 1: Watch online
The Droughtlander is nearly over, Sassenachs! Claire and Jamie will return in Outlander’s season 3 premiere, “The Battle Joined.”
The most recent episode of Outlander aired on July 9, 2016, but doesn’t it feel like we’ve been separated from the Starz fantasy drama for something like 20 years? Thank the standing stones of Craigh na Dun that we’ll be reunited with Claire, Jamie, and Poor Frank (as I’ll refer to him in my recaps) post-haste.
The last time we saw everybody was in the time-hopping “Dragonfly in Amber.” The 1746 storyline follows Claire and Jamie as they prepare for the Battle of Culloden. After it becomes clear that the battle is going to devastate the Highland culture, Jamie selflessly decides to send a pregnant Claire back through the stones to the 1940s. The episode’s other storyline, set in 1968, centers on a widowed Claire, who goes to Scotland with her daughter for the funeral of Reverend Wakefield.
There are many revelations for both Claire and her daughter, Brianna, in “Dragonfly in Amber.” Claire finds out that Jamie survived Culloden and that Geillis Duncan (aka Gillian Edgars) is about to travel through time. Plus, Brianna learns about her mother’s own experiences with time travel and realizes that Frank is not her biological father.
With that in mind, here’s what we can expect from “The Battle Joined,” the season premiere of Outlander, courtesy of TV Guide:
"Season 3 begins with Jamie at the mercy of unforgiving British victors, following the Battle of Culloden, until a connection from his past provides his only hope of survival. Meanwhile, a pregnant Claire attempts to adjust to life with Frank in 1940s Boston."
