Game of Thrones season 7: Brienne and Tormund still might be a thing

Game of Thrones might still have a little bit of romance to come in season 7 and beyond, or at least hope springs eternal.

It’s hard to deny that Tormund Giantsbane has it bad for Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones. When he talks to the Hound about her in episode 6 of season 7, “Beyond the Wall,” it’s pretty easy to pick up on the fact that the Hound thinks that the entire conversation is completely and totally bonkers. But Tormund, bless him, is completely and totally sincere in his feelings.

Apparently, fans aren’t the only ones who enjoy seeing Tormund head over heels for the lady knight.

Here’s what Kristofer Hivju had to say to the Making Game of Thrones blog:

"“Watching somebody falling totally in love is always pleasant to watch; especially since Brienne doesn’t really enjoy it. Although…I think she does a bit. Tormund might have a plan. It could be fantastic.”"

“Might have a plan”? “Might have a plan”? Okay, we admit we don’t agree with that part. Tormund definitely has a plan on getting Brienne to reciprocate. It isn’t a very good one, judging by her general reactions to him, which Hivju acknowledges, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a plan.  Perhaps we’ll see a change in strategy now that Tormund is back down south again.

Although the preview shows Brienne in King’s Landing in the season 7 finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” she’ll probably head back up to Winterfell, leaving her open to visits from Tormund. He could probably argue that the world is ending, so they might as well at least try a relationship because they’ll probably be dead soon anyway. Besides, he wouldn’t even begin to try to stop her from fighting. Her fighting attracted him to her in the first place!

Hivju also admitted that Tormund is kind of a closet romantic, saying that watching Ygritte and Jon was “the soap opera of Tormund’s reality.”

So, there you go. If you didn’t already love Tormund Giantsbane, you now have two more great reasons to adore him on Game of Thrones (and be really glad he didn’t die in last week’s “Beyond the Wall”).
