AT D23 EXPO 2017, DISNEY PARKS CHAIRMAN BOB CHAPEK ANNOUNCES SUMMER 2018 OPENING OF TOY STORY LAND — During D23 Expo 2017, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek announces the summer 2018 opening of Toy Story Land at DisneyÕs Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort.

Hollywood Studios: classic Mickey and Toy Story

Everyone knows about the Star Wars expansion. But that new area isn’t the only change to Hollywood Studios. Replacing the Great Movie Ride will be a ride featuring Mickey shorts. The original Mickey animation has legions of fans. The old school representation brings Disney fans back to a simpler time.

According to reports from D23 Expo, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will have lots of special effects. To set itself apart, riders won’t have to wear 3D glasses. The technology will have riders feel as they are in the experience without having to wear the glasses.

The idea of having a 3D-like experience without the glasses is a game changer. Those glasses can be annoying, but you don’t get the full ride experience without them. If Disney Imagineers can create a 3D-like experience without the glasses, riders will come back time and again.

Another highly anticipated opening is Toy Story Land. Construction on this area in Hollywood Studios has been going on for a while. The area will feature a family friendly roller coaster, a swirling saucer ride and a new entrance for the existing Toy Story Mania.

The Toy Story Land area will help the park add to its limited attractions. While Hollywood Studios remains great for Star Wars fans, the area contains limited rides. Younger guests may not show interest in the Tower of Terror or the Rock’n’Roller Coaster. This expanded Toy Story area is great for the youngest Disney fans.
