Doctor Who season 10 continues this week, with a standalone adventure involving an ancient mystery. This episode is clearly meant to serve as a bit of a breather before we plunge into all the drama of the series finale. And, as such, it looks pretty straightforward.
Titled “The Eaters of Light,” it follows Twelve, Bill and Nardole to ancient Roman Britain. Bill, as it turns out, is fascinated with a rather famous military mystery. And what’s the good of having access to a time machine, if you can’t use it to try to answer these questions?
Of course, the answer appears to involve a monster of some sort. But we probably all expected that.
However, the official synopsis indicates that something bigger than a simple creature-of-the-week might be going on.
"A long time ago, the ninth legion of the Roman army vanished into the mists of Scotland. Bill has a theory about what happened, and the Doctor has a time machine. But when they arrive in ancient Aberdeenshire, what they find is a far greater threat than any army. In a cairn, on a hillside, is a doorway leading to the end of the world…"
