The Great British Baking Show season premiere live stream: Watch online

Americans can finally watch the most recent season of The Great British Baking Show. Here’s what to expect from the double premiere.

Before we get any further, can we just say that yes, we know this season of The Great British Baking Show has already aired in the UK under its Bake Off name? These things happen. PBS airs stuff on delays.

That’s not going to stop us from enjoying the last ride of Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc, and Sue Perkins together before the show keeps Hollywood and moves over to Channel 4 in the UK.

For this premiere week, most PBS stations (check your local listings to be absolutely sure) will air the first two episodes.

As has practically become tradition, first is Cake Week, per PBS’ press room:

"“Meet the 12 bakers as they tackle a British classic, a sponge cake and a high-end showstopper.”"

Very uninformative! But it’s also not attempting to incite any drama, which we can appreciate greatly. Since sponge cake is listed second, expect it to be the basis of the technical challenge, so something like a genoise cake might not be outside the realm of possibility.

Directly afterwards (again, check local listings), the episode “Biscuits” will air:

"“Follow 11 bakers in their efforts to make biscuits, and learn a little more about each of them.”"

Remember that this is a British show, and that they’re talking about what we Americans tend to call cookies. This show has made a habit of actually spending time with its contestants in their actual lives, making them feel more like real people and less, shall we say, produced.

Date: Friday, June 16

Episode: “Cakes” and “Biscuits”
