Doctor Who spinoff Class airs its seventh episode this week, called “The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did.” Here’s all the information you need to watch the show online.
Doctor Who spinoff Class airs its penultimate episode this week, as the series hurtles toward the conclusion of its first season. The drama follows the stories of a group of various teens at Coal Hill Academy, a location that’s very familiar to longtime Who fans everywhere. (And also a hotbed of apparent alien activity.)
In an interesting twist, the events of Class’ seventh installment run parallel to last Saturday’s episode, “Detained.” It even starts and ends in the same places. But, rather than focus on the Class students, who are all stuck in detention together, it instead puts their teacher, Miss Quill. (Who is, as you all probably know by now, not a human at all. But rather the last member of an alien race.)
The official BBC synopsis for this week’s episode read as follows:
"With the gang trapped in detention and out of the way, Miss Quill accepts Dorothea’s astonishing offer: to help remove the Arn from her head, and to reclaim her freedom. Alongside Ballon, an imprisoned shape-shifter, Miss Quill travels in a metaphysical engine and is taken to impossible, extraordinary, and dangerous worlds, collecting materials in preparation for her life-changing procedure. After an emotional encounter with her surgeon and a nearly-fatal operation, Miss Quill must find a way to return to Earth: transformed and ready for war."
So it sounds like this episode is finally going to give actress Katherine Kelly a chance to shine. And this makes sense. After all, each of the younger actors had an episode largely built around them over the course of the season. And this looks like it’s finally Kelly’s turn. (One has to assume that the finale next week will bring everyone back together for another ensemble story.)
