From seven chefs to just one chef remaining. Chef Stephanie Izard battles three Iron Chefs in the finale of Iron Chef Gauntlet.
The ultimate battle for culinary glory is here. The finale of Iron Chef Gauntlet is set. Chef Stephanie Izard battles Iron Chefs Bobby Flay, Michael Symon and Masaharu Morimoto in the finale. To become the next Iron Chef she must prevail against all three chefs. Will she reign supreme?
This new season of Iron Chef has been building to the finale. While the scoring criteria remains, taste, plating and originality, the new version has been balanced gamesmanship and cooking supremacy. The gauntlet appears to be a combination of skill and strategy.
The Food Network describes the finale as follows.
"The last chef standing has the Iron Chef title in sight, but he or she must first run the three-round gauntlet against legendary Iron Chefs Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto and Michael Symon and finish with more points than the Iron Chefs combined. The finalist is given the opportunity to strategically choose which Iron Chef competes in each rapid-paced round based on the Secret Ingredients. In the end, judges Anya Fernald and Ludo Lefebvre decide if the finalist makes culinary history and becomes an Iron Chef or leaves in defeat."
Based on the synopsis, viewers will get to see three battles. The concept that the decision is cumulative should help Chef Izard. Having to beat each Iron Chef individually could be quite a challenge.
Personally, I think chef battle strategy is key. Understanding ingredients versus chefs preferred flavor profiles could influence successful point totals. In the end, the best dish will prevail. Hopefully Chef Izard has many successful dishes like she did all season long. Having a new female Iron Chef would breathe some new life into the series. I’m supporting Team Izard.
