Doctor Who spinoff Class continues this week with its sixth episode. For those of you who haven’t jumped on board yet, the series follows the adventures of an assortment of teens at Coal Hill Academy. (This location is positively infamous in Doctor Who lore, so no one should be surprised that it’s a hotbed of alien activity, right?)
Class ’ sixth installment comes on the heels of the series’ first (fairly epic) two-parter. And “Detained” follows up on that story by telling one that’s much smaller in scale. Its basic premise? The kids of Class get detention. Yes, it’s time for that tried and true method of giving an ensemble cast a reason to all be in the same place together.
But if the official synopsis is anything to go by, this detention is far from a normal punishment. Even if it does look like it will contain the standard teen emotional angst you’d find in something like The Breakfast Club.
"The whole gang are thrown into detention by Miss Quill. Locked in her classroom, they are terrified when an explosion propels them out of space and time – trapped, claustrophobic, and floating in blackness with no way of escape.Although a mysterious asteroid fragment may be their key to freedom, it forces the gang to confess their deepest, darkest secrets to one another.As ugly truths come out, fractures start to appear in the friendship group.And then they make a chilling discovery. They’re not alone. There’s somebody in there with them."
