22. It’s good to be friends with Greek gods

At least when you’re a superhero, that is. Us mere mortals would probably benefit from keeping a worshipful distance from any sort of pantheon. After all, you don’t want to end up being turned into a tree, a deer, or a cold, faraway constellation, do you?

But Diana, Princess of the Amazons, isn’t just any ordinary human being. She’s the freaking Wonder Woman, you know. And when your mom is Queen of the Amazons, you start your life out with some pretty highly-placed friends.

When Diana was born, she was blessed with various attributes via the Greek gods. Hermes, the messenger god, gave her the power of speed. Demeter gave her incredible strength. Athena made her wise and brave. Artemis gave her the ability to communicate with animals.

Aphrodite, goddess of beauty, made the young Diana, uh, really pretty? I mean, that’s nice and all, but you’ve got to admit that it’s not on the same tactical level as speed or super strength. Still, we hope Diana sent a nice thank you note to Aphrodite. No sense in being rude to a goddess.

But that’s not all. Hestia, goddess of the hearth and home, gave Diana the ability to withstand fire. Hestia also helped Wonder Woman out with the lasso of truth, since she apparently has an investment in compelling others to be forthcoming.
