When we last left Shadow Moon, at the end of “The Secret of the Spoons,” he was in danger of losing his head. Against his better instincts and apparently not picking up on Wednesday’s expressions of alarm, he made a bet with a slovenly Slav named Czernobog over a game of checkers. He lost the game and now Czernobog can collect his prize, which is to smash Shadow’s head with his hammer.
According to the episode 3 preview on YouTube, it looks like Shadow is still alive, at least for the time being. He and Wednesday are still in Chicago, and they’re in for some well-deserved scolding from the Zorya sisters. Looks like we’ll also be seeing more of Mad Sweeney. And Mr. Wednesday plans to rob a bank. With Shadow’s help, of course.
I’m really most excited to see more of the Zorya sisters, some of my favorite characters. Cloris Leachman, whose most iconic role among her 275 credits listed on IMDB is probably Frau Blücher in Young Frankenstein, plays Zorya Vechernyaya. I’ll be writing more about them Wednesday.
