Doctor Who Season 10 continues this week, with an episode that finally sees Nardole get in on the time and space traveling action. For this season’s first four episodes, the Doctor’s other sidekick, and his general partner-in-crime on all things to do with that mysterious vault, has been pretty sidelined. In fact, Nardole only appeared in these initial episodes for a handful of minutes here and there. That looks like it’s about to change in this week’s episode, entitled “Oxygen.” The only problem? It also looks like everyone could basically end up eaten by space zombies. (No really,
(No really, even the official synopsis says the dead walk this week.)
"The Doctor, Bill and Nardole answer a distress call in deep space, and find themselves trapped on board space station Chasm Forge. All but four of the crew have been murdered – and the dead are still walking!In a future where oxygen is sold by the breath, and space suits are valued more highly than their occupants, the TARDIS crew battle for survival against the darkest evil of all…"
As satisfying as it is to see Nardole get the chance to take part in the adventure this week, one must wonder what happened to get him to break his rule about someone needing to stay on-planet to guard the vault. Did he just not want to stay at home anymore? Did the Doctor feel bad about leaving so often? Who knows. Additionally, this is going to be the first episode in which Bill and Nardole have any significant interaction with one another. Beyond Nardole grumbling about making tea, the two definitely don’t know each other particularly well. So their dynamic will be interesting to watch.
