Tensions mount on Arrow as circumstances force Oliver and Felicity to confront the growing rift between them. We have the live stream information.
Arrow began as a story about grief and trauma; the costumes were merely embellishment. Over the years, the series delved deeper into superhero mythology and lost track of the emotions at its core, resulting in characters that often felt like pawns rather than people.
In season 5, it has rediscovered its humanity. One reason Prometheus makes such a compelling villain is because he brings out conflict within and between the protagonists. And, as much as we enjoy watching characters we like get along, conflict – not banter – fuels drama.
Tonight’s episode continues the conflicts introduced in “Dangerous Liaisons”. It looks like a treat. Here’s the synopsis for “Underneath,” which you can find attached to the photos from the episode on The CW’s press site:
"OLIVER AND FELICITY ARE TRAPPED — Things get intense when Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) are trapped in the bunker together. Meanwhile, Lyla (guest star Audrey Marie Andreson) and Diggle (David Ramsey) deal with their marital issues."
While the Diggle/Lyla storyline means it won’t be a true bottle episode, this is as close as Arrow has gotten to one since it stuck Oliver and Thea on Lian Yu in season 3. Bottle episodes are the best. By staying within a confined space and limiting escape options, they force the characters to interact and the writers to rely on those interactions to drive the narrative. They pare storytelling down to its essence. It’s hardly a coincidence that “The Return” was the best episode of season 3.
The trailer hints at an exciting added complication to Oliver and Felicity’s predicament:
Felicity’s disability is coming back into play! For a while, we were worried Arrow had forgotten about it.
