American Gods Episode 1 The Bone Orchard: Watch Online

American Gods premieres tonight on Starz. Find out where to watch the long-awaited TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s beloved novel, live online.

It’s finally here. Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is getting the modern cable TV treatment. Lucky for all of us, he is the executive producer, ensuring the integrity of this wonderful, terrible, far-reaching story. Adding to the excitement is the fact that Bryan Fuller, (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) wrote the first four episodes along with Michael Green (Smallville, Heroes). These two share the love of a good story, and respect fantasy as a legitimate genre, as it should be.

But don’t expect the show to exactly mirror the book. Like the official adaptations of Gaiman’s Neverwhere, and Douglas Adam’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, this one isn’t identical to the book. As Fuller told CNET:

"If you think you know Laura Moon [the wife of protagonist Shadow Moon, played by Ricky Whittle] from the book, you don’t know Laura Moon. The show is very faithful to the book, but it also takes a lot of liberties — liberties that have been sanctioned by Neil. He reads scripts, he watches cuts, and he gives us feedback. It’s very, very, very important to Michael and I that Neil be happy with his adaptation, and feel like his work is represented and his philosophies are represented."

That’s key, because Neil Gaiman has something to say, and America really needs to hear it right now.
