The “MST3K Love Theme” Is Different

This one feels like it should hurt more than it actually does. But if you think about it, the theme song has been tweaked over the years. There’s even a handy fan-made chart to guide you through which version of the theme song is which.

And this is one of the things that’s tweaked enough to make it new, but still similar to its predecessors to make the fans happy. No, seriously, not much about it has changed.

The lyrics are still very similar, so someone needs to update that chart. The special effects are still cheap and shoddy, which make it very lovable. Parts of it are a little over-the-top, including Kinga Forrester’s giant reveal and singing to “I’ll send him cheesy movies.” Then again, it fits perfectly since she’s trying to rebrand the name.

The tune is familiar, but the music is jazzed up. Seriously—there are more horns and it’s smoother sounding than before. In fact, it sounds much more modern than the old one, but since technology has come a long way in two decades, that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.

The biggest difference is that Jonah has to do it “live” every episode so he gets sucked up into a ridiculous tube to start the episode.
