“Mystery Science Theater 3000” has returned after nearly two decades off airwaves. There are plenty of differences between new and old, we have 15 of them!
The return of Mystery Science Theater 3000 is a thing of beauty. It took a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and a heck of a lot of love from the fans. Did we fans ever thing the show’s return was a possibility? We held out hope, but it was nothing more than a thought. A crazy daydream. Something that would never happen.
Of course, it became a reality when creator Joel Hodgson started a Kickstarter in the fall to herald its return. With each new milestone of money raised achieved, he revealed a little more about the show and its return. The stars! The voices of the ‘Bots! Guest writers (including Jerry Seinfeld)! It became one of the most successful Kickstarters of all time, and that speaks measures about its fans and the love for this cult classic.
Now that it has premiered on Netflix in its thirteen-episode glory, there’s a lot to digest. So much has changed! And yet it still feels so familiar, like we’ve been called home after being away for almost two decades.
We walk through fifteen differences, big or small, between the new iteration of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and its original run and why you should give it a chance (if you haven’t already). Chief. McCloud!
