No “best dressed” list is complete without this fashion maven front and center. As hard as it is to believe she could afford all that couture on a writer’s salary (I should know, after all) it didn’t stop us from envying her. Even in her downtime, she was dressed to the nines, and by comparison, made us real women seem like schlubs.

She famously said, “I like my money right where I can see it. Hanging in my closet.” Although this isn’t a sound financial strategy, you have to admit: she always looked simply fabulous. She couldn’t afford to buy her own apartment, and often had to ride the bus instead of take a taxi, but it’s often a trade off.  It’s better to be pretty than rich, I guess.

Carrie may have made some pretty toxic choices in her personal life, and she usually made decisions that were actively against her best interest. But her wardrobe was always smart and informed, and you’d never be able to tell what a mess she actually was. Carrie spawned more fashion movements than I can count, and we probably have her to blame for tutus and Manolos being a legitimate outfit choice.
