Watch Dancing with the Stars Week 5 Online

This episode of Dancing with the Stars is the most packed of the season so far, with multiple live performances and an opening sequence for Disney Night.

Dancing with the Stars, by its very nature, will never have a particularly quiet episode ever again, if it ever had one in the first place. (Something about having celebrities learn to dance with professionals just doesn’t lend itself to subtlety.) Even so, some episodes have more emotional moments. Then we come to the episodes like this week’s Disney Night.

Let’s get right to it, with information from ABC’s press release.

Contemporary

Simone Biles and Sasha Farber: “How Far I’ll Go,” Moana — Auli’i Cravalho

Not only does Simone Biles have a dance style all to herself, actress Auli’i Cravalho will sing live. Presumably there won’t be any flags to hit her in the head this time like at the Oscars earlier this year.

Foxtrot

Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater: “Evermore,” Beauty and the Beast — Josh Groban

Rashad Jennings also has the only foxtrot of the evening, and it looks like Dancing with the Stars will capitalize on the latest movie to make a billion at the box office.

Jive

David Ross and Lindsay Arnold: “Ride,” Cars 3 — ZZ Ward

ZZ Ward will also perform live in what ABC calls a “world premiere” of a new song from Cars 3. Since it’s not on Spotify, we’ll just have to wait and see what it sounds like.

Jazz

Heather Morris and Maks Chmerkovskiy: “For the First Time in Forever,” Frozen — Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell

Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd: “I’ve Got No Strings,” Pinocchio — Dickie Ward

Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev: “That’s How You Know,” Enchanted — Amy Adams

Anyway, jazz is the most crowded category this week with a whopping three stars each attempting this style. “I’ve Got No Strings” feels like a strange choice considering how relatively new the rest of the songs being used tonight are. Tonight’s only paso doblé uses the second-oldest song.

Presumably, Alan Bersten is still dancing with Heather Morris; Maks Chmerkovskiy didn’t seem ready to go last week when asked.

Paso Doblé

Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy: “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” Mulan — Donny Osmond

Donny Osmond will also perform live. The paso certainly does require the swiftness of a coursing river, the force of a great typhoon, the strength of a raging fire, and the mysteriousness of the dark side of the moon. It’s just up to Normani Kordei to get down to business. (Here are the lyrics, in case you don’t know them already.)

Tango

Bonner Bolton and Sharna Burgess: “When Can I See You Again?”, Wreck-It Ralph — Owl City

Since everyone else gets their own dance style, it’s stranger and stranger that three stars have to share jazz. Anyway, tango will play nicely with Bonner Bolton’s strength: his chemistry with Sharna Burgess.

Viennese Waltz

Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko: “Unforgettable,” Finding Dory — Sia
