Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie Cast in YA Adaptation ‘Darkest Minds’

Great news for Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie. She is in negotiations to join the YA adaptation of Darkest Minds.

Congratulations are order for Gwendoline Christie. The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively announcing she is currently in negotiations to star in another film. This time it’s an adaptation of the Young Adult Fantasy series The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. Christie will be joining actress Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and Young Adult movie staple Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games).

If you’re not familiar with The Dark Minds series, you should remedy that. The book is set in the United States were a pandemic has killed most of the children and teenagers. The ones who have survived the are now developing superpowers. The parents are scared, and the government is locking the children in internment camps. The lead character Ruby Daly (Stenberg) has kinetic powers and manages to escape the camp. During her escape, she meets up with other teens like her, who are on the run. Hot on the teen’s heels is a bounty hunter (Christie) who loves her job and is very good at it.

Gwendoline Christie playing a bounty hunter? Say it isn’t so! Game of Thrones fans know looking for wayward teenagers is not a far stretch for Christie. Her Game of Thrones character, Brienne of Tarth looked for Arya Stark for an entire season. Hopeful, she will have better luck than she did on the show.

Currently, no production date has been set or estimated release date for Darkest Minds so it could take some time. That’s fine because Christie will be back on HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones when it returns July 16.  You will also see her on the big screen when she reprises her role as Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Last Jedi Dec 15.
