“Return of the Nana” – The OC

Seth Cohen is just so charming, I don’t even mind that an entire episode was devoted to his grandmother, which he calls “the Nana.” Seth makes everything better, and when he, Sandy, and Ryan travelled to Miami to check up on Sandy’s mother, hijinks obviously ensue.

The whole reason for their visit is to scope out the Nana’s new, too-young fiance, and when he turns out to be a runner, the Nana is devastated. Seth, on the other hand, has taken up with a saucy performer who ropes him into a naughty dance routine that involves a little bit of licking and a whole lot of whip cream.

Ryan, typically, is pouty and morose, and winds up spending most of the vacation pining for dumb ol’ Marissa. Marissa, on the other hand, is in actual trouble, having been assaulted at her nearby beach.

Let this episode be a cautionary tale about the perils of too much sunshine. Not only can it cause disturbances in the May-December romances, but it can apparently lower the inhibitions of a nerdy little TV-geek enough to where he feels confident enough to do a whip cream dance. At least the Nana’s heartbreak facilitates a better relationship with Sandy. It’s not all bad.
