9. Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman

Hawkgirl has been through a few different incarnations, thanks in large part to a comics storyline involving a seemingly endless cycle of reincarnation. While those versions have decent costumes, let’s turn to another incarnation of the character for the best duds. I’m specifically talking about Hawkgirl, Shayera Hol.

Unlike other versions of the character, Shayera Hol is far from human. Though she looks quite a bit like one of us, she’s actually from the faraway planet of Thanagar. She’s an intergalactic police officer of sorts. In fact, she was pursuing a criminal when she encountered Earth and became fascinated by its inhabitants. Shayera later returned to our planet to become a superhero, known to us as both Hawkgirl and Hawkwoman.

While, of course, there are plenty of variations on the Hawkwoman costume, a few key elements have remained the same. Perhaps the most recognizable element is Hawkwoman’s helmet. It’s a dramatic gold winged piece that gives her the appearance of – you guessed it – a hawk.

Hawkwoman also has gigantic wings, a deadly mace, and a special belt made out of Nth metal. The mysterious Nth metal is found on Thanagar and gives its wearers the ability to fly, protects them from the elements, and speeds up their healing process. While that belt is perhaps not the flashiest part of her costume, it is certainly the most important.
