Just when you thought Hollywood couldn’t get any more unoriginal, Warner Bros. announces a reboot of The Matrix. Neo and Morpheus say Hell to the Naw.
It’s official. The 90’s has called, and it wants its decade back. And we should let them have it. In another long line of Hollywood reboots floating around is Warner Bros. sci-fi hit The Matrix. OK, you can stop laughing now. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Warner Bros. is interested in expanding The Matrix movie series. They are even floating Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) to possibly star in the reboot.
Currently, Wachowski siblings who wrote and directed The Matrix series are not involved in the reboot. Wait, what?! How do you not involve the very creators of the very movie you want to recreate? It’s truly a slap in the face for the Wachowski siblings. Neo dies in Matrix Revolutions, so any reboot would have to be without its star, Keanu Reeves. He has also stated in an interview with Yahoo Movies he wouldn’t consider doing another Matrix movie without the Wachowskis.
If you haven’t noticed Reeves is sort of a hot commodity with the launch of his John Wick movie series. Laurence Fishburne who plays Morpheus in The Matrix series has never said which way he would go on a reboot, but everyone knows without the Wachowski siblings it’s almost a non-starter.
If you ask me Warner Bros. is just putting feelers out there to gauge the general interest into a relaunch of The Matrix series. They need to understand audiences are thirsting for more original content, not remakes or reboots. Any Matrix reboot without the Wachowski siblings or their blessing should not be done.
