The battle for late night supremacy rages on, and in this week’s edition of Seth Meyers vs Stephen Colbert, we’re choosing between catch-up and microwaves.
Last night, Seth Meyers returned from a weeklong vacation to settle back into his usual “A Closer Look” routine. Meanwhile, over on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, our host with the most political cred continued chugging along to his continued ratings glory over Jimmy Fallon.
But who did it better? Let us compare.
In This Corner: Seth Meyers
Because he had last week off, Seth was playing catch-up this week, so he took on the proposed Trumpcare bill. This bill is, perhaps, one of the worst healthcare bills in history, because it will leave more than 24 million Americans without insurance, according to the CBO. What’s more, premiums will rise exponentially, leaving many of the so-called “working poor” in a position where they will have to choose between paying their medical bills and eating.
But don’t worry, said Meyers, because Trump will entice the lawmakers who are against the preposterous bill with pizza at the White House.
"“That’s right, Trump is trying to sway members of Congress with an 8-year-old’s birthday party. Also, good news, Steve Bannon has agreed to be a terrifying clown.”"
In This Corner: Stephen Colbert
Meanwhile, on the other end of the late night war of Seth Meyers vs Stephen Colbert, Stephen Colbert took on the Kellyanne Conway Great Microwave Controversy.
We’ll recall yesterday that Trump’s Counselor to the President put forth the ridiculous speculation that microwaves, the glorious kitchen appliances that have warmed up countless leftovers, were being used to “spy” on us.
First, he snarked on the “microwaves that turn into cameras” comment, claiming that his show was filmed just like this.
Colbert then snarked on Kellyanne’s increasing role — almost to the point of detriment — in Trump’s life.
"“Trump adviser and stepmom who is trying to replace your mother Kellyanne Conway explained yesterday that just because there’s no evidence that his phone was wiretapped, doesn’t mean Trump is wrong.”"
And then, he finished it off by trying to talk to Obama through a microwave, Good Eats-style.

The verdict: for timeliness, physical comedy, and a general roasting of Kellyanne Conway, we’re going to have to give it to Stephen Colbert.
