Oscar Accountants Involved With The Best Picture Mistake Are Out Of A Job

Just when you thought everyone had gotten over the Oscar faux pas another wrinkle has been added. The accountants who made the mistake, are out of a job.

No one will soon forget the monumental mistake made this Oscar Sunday which gave La La Land the Oscar for Best Picture over the real winner’s Moonlight.  Soon after the error was made, the firm PriceWaterhouseCooper released a statement apologizing. In the announcement, they go on to explain the presenters gave the wrong envelope to Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

"We sincerely apologize to “Moonlight,” “La La Land,” Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation."

Apparently, the apology was not enough for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Academy President, Cheryl Boone Isaacs. She announced Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz, the two accountants involved in the mistake would no longer be involved with the Oscars.

During the investigation into what happened Oscar night, they found that PwC representative, Brian Cullinan’s focus was on taking pictures of the superstars backstage, not ensuring the correct envelopes made it into the right hands. Evidently, Cullinan had tweeted a photo (now deleted) of Best Actress Oscar winner Emma Stone minutes before the wrong envelope was handed off to the presenters.
