20. Misty Knight

You may have already noticed Misty Knight in the Netflix series, Luke Cage. While that show is great and definitely worth your time, you may also be surprised to learn that there is way, way more to Misty Cage than what you see on the small screen.

Misty started her career as an NYPD officer. She prevents a bomb attack but is seriously injured: her right arm is amputated. Facing the prospect of a desk job, Knight instead resigns from the police department.

Thanks to a friendship with Tony Stark, though, Misty gets a new bionic arm which proves to be far stronger and more durable than the original. For a time, she was also roommates with Jean Grey, who would later go on to her continuously resurrecting role as Phoenix/Dark Phoenix with the X-Men.

Instead of teaming up with the X-Men full-time, Misty chooses a more sensible path focusing on detective work. Along the way, she manages to meet martial arts superhero Iron Fist and – yep, you guessed it – the two fall in love. She also teams up with Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and another martial artist crimefighter named Colleen Wing. Together, Colleen and Misty form the crime fighting duo called the Daughters of the Dragon.

Misty Knight is a highly trained martial artist. Thanks to her police training, she’s also an excellent detective with superb firearms skills. Her bionic arm is incredibly strong and, thanks to some recent updates, can emit repulsor fields, cryogenic beams, and gives Misty the ability to control certain robots.
