In the third episode, Archie comes clean about being in the woods the morning of Jason’s murder, but he doesn’t admit he was rolling around in the pine needles with his young and doe-eyed teacher. Jughead is the only one who knows the truth, and this prompts him to do a little digging. Turns out, Ms. Grundy isn’t who she says she is.

Even more interesting than a secret identity, is the possiblity of as love connection between Grundy and Fred Andrews (formerly knows an teen heart throb Dylan McKay, but IRL Luke Perry). How juicy would a love triangle between a dad, son and a woman who is too-young-for-one, but too-old-for the-other?

Once again, Riverdale is coming hard for the cliches about young female friendships. Instead of pitting Betty and Veronica against each other, or even against the grating Cheryl, they come together to take on the patriarchy.

Of course, Archie is far too limp to be an oppressor, and Jughead is too distracted trying to seem broody and morose. This results in a foursome that has a fun dynamic — not entirely unlike Buffy and her gang. Don’t forget, there were a lot of folks that were all very skeptical of that show at first too.
