Arrow S5E13 Live Stream: Watch “Spectre of the Gun” Online
By Amy Woolsey
The promotional material for this week’s Arrow prepares us for a somber episode. Here’s where you can find “Spectre of the Gun” online.
Despite being partly set in Russia, Arrow was a relatively lighthearted affair last week. “Bratva” featured Felicity crashing a party, Oliver and Diggle bonding, and plenty of thrilling action scenes. Sure, it climaxed with a nuclear bomb almost going off, but you never got the sense that the characters were in serious danger. It was, on the whole, fun.
That doesn’t appear to be the case this week. Not that we mind; Arrow’s willingness to venture into dark places (usually) without veering into dour self-seriousness is one of its strengths. (Take notes, Zack Snyder.)
Read the official plot synopsis for “Spectre of the Gun” below:
"A traumatic attack on City Hall triggers painful memories for Rene (Rick Gonzalez) about his family. Flashbacks reveal how Rene went from simple family man to a hero named Wild Dog. Meanwhile, Oliver (Stephen Amell) must deal with the perpetrator behind the attack and realizes the best way to do so is as Mayor Queen instead of the Green Arrow. Tensions run high in the Arrow bunker."
Arrow has dropped hints of Rene’s shadowy past throughout the season, but it looks like we will at last get the whole story. In DC Comics, Wild Dog is a college dropout and former Marine named Jack Wheeler, who resorted to extralegal justice when his girlfriend was murdered by her mobster father.
What we know of Rene so far suggests his origin story will diverge from the comics. Whereas Jack Wheeler left the Marines voluntarily, Rene was dishonorably discharged, as Quentin reminded him in “Bratva”. Also, the above synopsis implies that he was married, possibly with children. It’s vaguely reminiscent of the backstory given to Deadshot/Floyd Lawton, another family man who served in the military, but we’re sure there will be more to it.
Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing Oliver actually do stuff as mayor. Judging from the trailer for “Spectre of the Gun”, he will give at least one motivational speech:
Does this mean Arrow will delve into gun control and mass violence? The show is essentially about law enforcement, but it has been somewhat coy about tackling those issues and the politics of crime in general. Also, Thea is finally back!
