Many would say this year’s Super Bowl commercials left much to be desired, but that didn’t extend to all the television and movie trailers that aired. Some would say the Super Bowl game was about as exciting at the trailers it advertised. We got everything from extended trailers of big action films like Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers: The Last Knight and the much anticipated Logan. The ever present actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made two appearances during Super Bowl night in the trailers for the comedy spoof of 90’s TV show Baywatch and The Fate of the Furious. If you like your movies more on the suspenseful side, they also aired trailers for A Cure For Wellness and Life. Hoping to quiet critics the trailer for the movie Ghost in the Shell, lead by Scarlet Johanson additionally made an appearance during the Super Bowl.

Hulu is really hoping the trailer for its new dystopian show The Handmaid’s Tale will translate into new subscriptions. Netflix countered with a wonderful tribute to the movies Poltergeist and Ghostbusters to announce the premiere date of Stranger Things season 2. Noticeably absent was Amazon Prime who decided to not air a trailer during the Super Bowl. Fox who was broadcasting Super Bowl 51, also took the opportunity to promote some of its most popular television shows like Empire, MasterChef Junior, and its new hit action show, Lethal Weapon.
