Is There a New Episode of How to Get Away with Murder Tonight, Jan. 19?

How to Get Away with Murder has been off the air since November. Will it return tonight, or will we have to wait additional time?

The winter has been long without How to Get Away with Murder to help anchor Thursday nights. Not to knock things like The Great American Baking Show, but it’s tough to compare to Viola Davis’ Annalise Keating, even if Mary Berry’s baking skills are mighty indeed. No, sometimes you just need a little drama.

Originally, How to Get Away with Murder was to have returned today, Jan. 19, the same as its TGIT blockmates and fellow Shondaland shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. However, ABC decided to shift that return back a week for a special on the incoming president and his family, as reported by Deadline. The special won’t last three hours, though, but it will air in Murder‘s timeslot of 10 p.m. ET. Reruns of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal will fill out the rest of tonight’s primetime block on ABC. Deadline reports that this shift happened so that TGIT would return only with new episodes.

Here’s a brief reminder of what went down during the mid-season finale. First, Wes is dead. According to Nate, he actually died before the fire and explosion that destroyed Annalise’s house. Second, Laurel’s pregnant. She was found in the house but pulled out alive. Finally, Annalise is under arrest for the fire as well as murdering Wes. Right now, it’s unclear whether or not she actually did it.

The episode that will air next week is titled “We’re Bad People“, a clear nod to the season premiere’s name of “We’re Good People Now“. Let’s face it, the Keating 4 — or the New Keating 5, with Oliver subbing in for the very-dead Wes — have not really been good people for a long time.
