Is There a New Episode of Grey’s Anatomy Tonight, Jan. 19?
By Buckie Wells
While Grey’s Anatomy was previously supposed to kick off TGIT on Jan. 19, its premiere was pushed back another week for a 20/20 special.
Grey’s Anatomy went on winter hiatus last month. The major conflict of Season 13 focused on the aftermath of Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and his outburst at the end of Season 12. For almost no reason at all, he decided to beat up DeLucca (Giacomo Gianniotti). After spending so many years learning to love Karev, he devolved back into old habits and forced our Grey’s Anatomy writers into an awkward situation.
When the show returns, we’ll finally learn his fate. Is he going to prison or not? If he does, they almost have to write him out of the show. But if he doesn’t, then he got away with a serious crime. Of course, Grey’s Anatomy has put its characters in illegal situations like that before. But we often forgive the characters. Especially when it boils down to one of our favorites versus a relative newcomer.
Plus, there are a few other things to look forward to in the second half of the season. We’re going to meet Mr. Avery. Of course, that’s the father of Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and ex-husband of Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen). And we’ll even learn a little more about Jo Wilson, whose name is not actually Jo Wilson.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait one more week before we dive back into the Grey Sloan drama. ABC decided that airing a Trump 20/20 special before the inauguration would be more profitable than its usual TGIT. Personally, I’m most interested in finding out what happens next with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), but that might just be me.
