For the penultimate episode of season one, Westworld will connect some important dots. Here’s how you can catch all the action online.

Note: Need a refresher on last week’s Westworld episode? Culturess has a recap.

With only two episodes left in the season, Westworld has its work cut out for it. In addition to providing answers to at least some of its mysteries, the show needs to connect its many plotlines and characters and set up season two, which has already been ordered.

HBO’s official synopsis for episode nine, “The Well-Tempered Clavier”, sounds promising:

"Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) reconnect with their pasts; Maeve (Thandie Newton) makes a bold proposition to Hector (Rodrigo Santoro); Teddy (James Marsden) finds enlightenment, at a price."

As we noted when HBO released the synopsis, the title refers to a collection of keyboard pieces by Baroque composer Johannes Sebastian Bach. It consists of two “books”, each with 24 Prelude and Fugues that correspond to various major and minor keys, and is highly influential in Western classical music due to its formal complexity. The most immediate connection to Westworld is through the player piano, an instrument that would probably blow the minds of people in Bach’s era. Like all the non-original music used on the show, though, The Well-Tempered Clavier will no doubt have a deeper thematic meaning as well.

The synopsis itself hints at major plot developments. When we left Dolores, she had run away from her now-vanished hometown with William, only to come across a band of soldiers lead by Logan. Given the way things went in Pariah, we’re guessing this won’t be a happy reunion. But somehow, Dolores will piece her memories together and figure out what Arnold is trying to tell her. Similarly, despite Ford’s efforts to smother it, the truth of Bernard’s existence and Theresa’s death will bubble to the surface – prompted, it seems, by Maeve.

Speaking of which, we’ll be getting more of Maeve and Hector’s sizzling chemistry. Our best guess as to Maeve’s “bold proposition” (pun almost definitely intended) is that she’s going to try recruiting the outlaw for her army. He would be a valuable ally, especially if his loyal gang joins as well. Lastly, Teddy has been captured by Wyatt’s men. Does “enlightenment” for him mean that he’ll become self-aware like Dolores and Maeve? In “Trace Decay”, he started to remember the Man in Black, though he didn’t seem to find anything unusual about the memories. Or is his enlightenment related to Wyatt and Ford’s new narrative?

Presumably, the human characters will be doing stuff as well. To be honest, we just want to know for sure what happened to Elsie.
