Superhero Movies
This one is super easy. All superhero movies have to deal with the government. In Batman V Superman there is an entire scene where there is a Supreme Court case against Superman. Our heroes have to face the people who run our country quite frequently. Can you imagine if the Avengers didn’t have to deal with the government? It’d be mayhem.
What’s unfortunate is most superhero movies make the government seem like the bad guys. In Captain America: Civil War, the government is why the fight between Tony and Steve even happens. When the government is right. People like the Avengers and Superman and whatever other superhero that comes around think they can do whatever they want.
But we see the destruction some of these heroes cause. They wipe out entire cities and think everyone should be grateful. So yes, the government steps in and politicians are like “hey guys, maybe tone it down” and then they are somehow the bad guys?
With superhero movies, the politics is a little muddled because they are supposed to be the ones we hate when, in fact, they are just doing their job. So the next time you put on Captain America: Civil War, think about all the people that died when they destroyed New York City and cut the government a little slack.
