Ghostbusters, Columbia Pictures promo

The Ghostbusters

Okay so let’s first get this picture choice out of the way. The female Ghostbusters were great and everything about that movie is fantastic and enjoy it. Now, onto the politics of this classic film. The mayor of New York City literally helps the Ghostbusters in both films.

How can you say there is not politics in Ghostbusters when they literally have to deal with the mayor? How does that make sense? It doesn’t. You can’t say that there isn’t politics when it comes to the Ghostbusters movies because they have to deal with those in charge. Yes, it is to get rid of ghosts and all but they still have to deal with politicians.

Especially in the remake there is a bigger underlying theme of those politicians not doing their jobs accordingly. The mayor doesn’t listen to Erin, Jillian, Patsy, or Abby and it ends up terrible for Manhattan.

While the political side of the franchise isn’t exactly important, it is still present and part of the movies. It’s there and that’s the point. No matter where we look or what franchise we love, politics usually have some kind say in them. Even if we don’t necessarily want them there.
