The series, in the beginning, does a really good job of showing Elizabeth as a mother. The first episode shows her having Charles and Anne give Philip his new honor. It is sweet and the way she interacts with her children is lovely.

As the show goes on and she gets more and more responsibilities, her interactions with her children grow less and less. It goes from her being very attentive to Philip almost raising Charles and Anne on his own.

It is going to be interesting to see how the story continues on once she has Edward and Andrew. Now, the queen has many great grandchildren and seems to be involved in their lives. But it was always in question how much she was around for her own children.

So it is nice to see the side of her that cares for Charles and Anne and loves them unconditionally. It is a side of the Queen that many didn’t believe existed. She has a reputation for being cold so seeing scenes where Charles is riding his bike and she’s laughing are very sweet. They warm you to Elizabeth more and make you see her as a person rather than just a monarch.
