#12: Rosie O’Donnell on ‘The View’
I am whole-heartedly ready to throw down on the following issue: Rosie O’Donnell is the greatest treasure we have. I remember watching her show every single day when I came home from school, thinking she was the funniest woman to ever grace this planet, and literally fighting my sister over who got to wear the ‘Rosie O’Donnell Show’ denim jacket that was inexplicably in our home. She is true American gem, who was our Ellen + Jimmy Fallon + James Corden back in the day. But then she kind of a tiny bit went rogue. Her talk show ended, and she fell out of the public eye for a bit- maybe because she came out, but still unclear. And she came back to daytime TV, years later, as a host of The View. And boy, oh boy, did she come back. Not only did she LOUDLY speak her mind, but she got in televised heated arguments with conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselback often, and was accused of intentionally starting trouble and sharing divisive opinions simply for ratings. Things got so bad, she ended her run as co-host after about a year onboard…..only to be reinstated a few years later, in 2014. Rumor had it she butted heads with new unofficial head of The View panel, Whoopi Goldberg, during her second run at the show, and again, only stuck around for about a year.
I know I denounced the pitting of women against each other only a few slides ago, but TEAM ROSIE ALL THE WAY!!!! Her place on The View panel was maybe the closest our country has ever come to utter perfection, and we should be ashamed and appalled to have lost her. Long live the O’Donnell.
