4. Girls’ Generation

Alternatively known as SNSD in its home country, Girls’ Generation is massive. No, actually massive. Upon its debut in 2007, the group had nine members.

The group still has eight members, actually, though one, Jessica Jung, did leave SM Entertainment entirely in 2015 after first leaving the group in 2014. Still, Girls’ Generation has carried on. (Have you noticed that trend yet?)

At one point, Girls’ Generation aimed to bring its brand of pop to the United States, including a performance on the Late Show with David Letterman of single “The Boys” in English. The accompanying album of the same name also got released by a stateside label, Interscope Records.

Girls’ Generation has also spawned a subgroup, Girls’ Generation TTS, featuring three members who’ve coincidentally released three EPs together, with the most recent coming in 2015. Two members, Taeyeon and Tiffany, have also done solo work with the EPs and I Just Wanna Dance, respectively.

For more from this girl group, start off with these songs: “Run Devil Run“, showing off a slightly darker sound than usual; “Gee“, which stands as arguably their biggest song to date; and “Sailing“, the latest release, written by member Sooyoung to commemorate the 9th anniversary of the group’s debut.
