Beck, TBA, October 21st

Beck is the artist that never ever sounds the same. I love that about him. There’s a big difference between an artist being lost and unable to find their voice and their identity and an artist who is constantly growing. Beck is the latter.

I chose “Dreams” as the video above, but I’m sure everyone has heard, “Wow”. BOTH of these songs are the complete opposite of what he put out with Morning Phase– which I also loved.

We still don’t have a title for the new album.

"Come on out of your dreams And wake up from your rêverie Time is here, don’t go to sleep Streets are running on the brink They say that we’ve got nothing But a dollar for a life of sin Cause there’s trouble on the way Oh, there’s trouble on the way Oh, get a dog and pony for a judgment day Here we are (oh oh oh) Running circles, around around around around When nothing’s right, just close your eyes Close your eyes and you’re gone Dreams (dreams, dreams) D-d-d-dreams (oh oh oh) She’s makin’ me high, she’s makin’ me high Dreams (dreams, dreams) D-d-d-dreams (oh oh oh) She’s makin’ me high, I wanna get me free Nothing gonna get me in my world -“Dreams”"

“Dreams” is the funky pop-esque dance tune, without being a total snooze-fest and sellout. “Wow” is the ironic, sarcastic, catchy as hell answer to whatever modern “hip hop” artists are doing- which is essentially nothing. Beck seemingly lays it all out and says to the music world, “Look, anyone can do this. But can you do it well?”

Beck can do it well. And I bet the whole album is a blast.
