Track 19: “The Anchor”, 3:24

“The Anchor” was very purposefully set at the last track. If “Good Grief” (the first track) was about a man dealing with his grief, “The Anchor” is the song that brings us full circle. It’s the song that says this man has moved on. Instead of causing him anguish and pain, he can look back at that person and remember how special they are to him, and bring a smile to his face. The lost is still his anchor, and he can appreciate the experiences of the wild world, now.

"“You were the light that is blinding me You’re the anchor that I tie to my brain ‘Cause when it feels like I’m lost at sea You’re the song I sing again and again All the time, all the time I think of you all the time”"

“Bring me some hope / By wandering into my mind / Something to hold onto / Morning, or day, or night”.

This song has something I can’t say I really heard anywhere else in the album, and that’s (what sounds like) an organ. But really, the focus is on the vocals. During the verses, the instrumentals are cut way back so that the lyrics and Dan’s voice can ring out.
