14. Betty White

Dear 2016,

Have you had your fill yet? Are you satisfied? Have our entertainers and tears not quenched your thirst for death and sadness enough?

Betty White is the queen of comedy, and at ninety-four, I’m afraid our time with the charming comedic creature may be close to curtain call. But, I mean, does it have to be 2016? We’re talking about a woman who has survived three husbands, a World War, and more than seventy years of Hollywood. Surely 2016 even has enough respect for this woman to turn tail and focus on someone… else.

With more than 110 film and television credits in her filmography, White may very well be, and go down in history as, one of the most iconic female entertainers of the 20th and 21st centuries. And we’re not talking about a bunch of fluff, no-name, straight-to-TV crap. Some of her most iconic works are some of the most dear to us: Golden Girls, Hot in Cleveland, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Proposal (alongside Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock), and the hilarious reality prank show Betty White’s Off Their Rockers. In addition to being charming and hilarious and, seemingly, a wonderful human being, Betty broke down stereotypes for women in Hollywood. She gained respect and creative control over projects (Life With Elizabeth) long before other women in showbiz, and has opened doors for female comedic actors to rise in popularity.

Betty- take your vitamins. 2017 is a comin’.
