5. The Voice (NBC)

Premiere Date: September 19th

If you thought The Voice would go the way of American Idol, you would be wrong. The Voice likes to keep its format fresh. Season 11 of The Voice kicks off this September with some new judges and mentors. Super-bros Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are back for the eleventh season, but Pharrell Williams and Christina Aguilera are out. They have been replaced with the R&B superstar Alicia Keys and Pop singer Miley Cyrus. Both have been mentors in seasons past, but this is the first year the show has two female judges.

Following the closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Rio over 10 million people tuned in for a preview of The Voice. The show did not disappoint. The judges sang an outstanding rendition of Aerosmith, “Dream On.” It played in the wheelhouse of all the judges, but the real standouts are Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus. This might be the best song the judges have ever done together in any season. The preview presented seventeen-year-old contestants Darby Walker and We’ McDonald. They both wowed the judges with their renditions of Ben E. King’s, “Stand By Me” and Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” The only contestant to earn a nod from all four of the judges was We’ McDonald. I would watch out for this powerhouse. She has the potential to win it all.
