4. The Gold King
King Louis XV is looking every inch a king in his gold suit. While other men might adorn their suits with gold accents, he is the only one pull it off an entire suite. One would think the gold color would overwhelm the suit, but Dresbach and her team used cream stockings and lace to accentuate the suit. The addition of the black cane and rings further break up the gold color of the suit without drawing too much attention. In an interview with InStyle Dresbach spoke about her inspiration for King Louis gold suit.
"“You can’t put enough on them, they can’t be more over the top. I knew I wanted him in gold. There’s a painting of one of the kings wearing this beautiful embroidered gold suit and I knew that it was the ultimate in wealth and luxury so we found this amazing gold fabric and embroidered every inch of it. It is a really spectacular, ornate costume—completely over the top.”"
Again, Dresbach looks to art to make Outlander as authentic as possible. It takes a particular King to pull off a gold suit but King Louis does it with style. Eat your heart out Elton John.
