8. Simone Biles: Your Women’s All-Around Gold medalist!

Simone Biles: Best In The World.

It was hard to watch the Olympics this year without hearing those words over and over again. I’m not mad about it, though. In fact, it’s just true. I dare you to argue that any female gymnast, past or present, holds a candle to the four foot eight powerhouse. Simone Biles was not just the favorite for individual all-around gold, she was the 3-time reigning world champion- a record amount of world champion wins that no other gymnast can claim.

Fact Check: Simone Biles hasn’t lost a major meet in the last three years. She probably would have made it on the Olympic team four years ago, if she had been old enough. The rule is that you have to turn 16 in the Olympic year- she just missed out. So it was no shocker that she won gold in the individual all-around competition. What was so amazing was watching her win by a margin of 2.1 points.

TWO POINT ONE POINTS. The top three spots are usually separated by mere tenths of a point- so the fact that she dominated by more than two is a true feat, and probably something we won’t see again.
