Video game news rolls right on this Valentine's Day week with a ton of new game announcements from the latest State of Play, and we've got plenty of other updates, so let's jump right in.
Elden Ring Nightreign release date revealed and network testing this weekend
Bandai Namco gave us an official release date for Elden Ring: Nightreign, which was only announced back in December at the 2024 Game Awards: May 30 and for a cool $40.
Folks this week also found out if they were picked for the network testing as well. That takes place February 14 through the 17 in three-hour increments, so you won't get to play the entire weekend. It's less of a beta test and more to make sure the servers can handle the amount of players and the online system's functionality holds.
One issue with those network testers (like my husband) is that the codes he received don't work in our region; from the email, it looks like we got an Asia access code instead of the US. And reports around Reddit are that Xbox players are getting PSN codes and PlayStation players are getting Xbox codes. So that's not off to a great start.
Remedy Entertainment's quarterly financial report
Anytime Remedy does anything, we're gonna post about it because we're fully invested in the Remedyverse. They released their most recent financial report to investors and it's all pretty positive news. Alan Wake 2 has surpassed 2 million in sales and is now making royalties, which also keeps it as the company's fastest-selling game ever.
They also gave us some fun news in that Control 2 will head into full production at the end of this month. The Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes are also moving full speed ahead, and FBC: Firebreak is still slated to release sometime later this year. We're excited to hear the news on Control 2 because that tease in The Lake House DLC was too good...
It's also Remedy's 30th anniversary this year, so we can only hope there's big news ahead.
Marvel Rivals actually listens to players
Marvel Rivals planned on restructuring its season rankings when the first half of this first competitive season concludes on February 21, but the backlash from players was so resounding and so immediate that NetEase released an updated statement saying that it wouldn't actually reset players' rankings until the end of the season. We love when developers actually listen to their player base!
More new DLC for Astro Bot
Yes, it's the game that truly keeps on giving. Astro Bot has five new DLC levels that are coming over the next five weeks, with the first one launching earlier this week. These levels are less aobut hte speed running and more about the jumping.
And that is a fair assessment. I played through the first DLC level Thursday night and level "Tick-Tock Shock" is definitely all about the jumps and maneuvering through frozen time. There aren't really any corners to cut, but I'm sure speed runners will still find some.
PlayStation's State of Play
This was probably the biggest news of this week, and the PlayStation State of Play that happened on Wednesday afternoon gave us a ton of new games, but nothing for a Bloodborne 2 or a Bloodborne remastered.
Still, this was nothing to scoff at. The one that has us most excited is Housemarque's next game, Saros, which will be their follow-up to the excellent Returnal. It won't release until 2026, but it looks so good.
We also got official confirmation for that release date for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater that was leaked last week as well as a release date for Borderlands 4 on September 23, which shouldn't be the same day as GTA VI.
We also have a Days Gone remaster coming on April 25 (which will cost $10 for anyone who currently owns the game), a new trailer for Hell Is Us (which releases on September 4), and a new look at Onimusha: Way of the Sword, plus so many things we don't have the space to type about, so you can watch the whole thing right here.
